Regimental Sgt. Zippo was scheduled to be Elton John's debut album, recorded between November 1967 and May 1968. But the production team had other plans for Elton John's talents, and the album was shelved in favor of Empty Sky, which became his album debut instead.

More than 50 years later, Regimental Sgt. However, Zippo finally saw the light of day and was released as his 31st studio album. Initially, it was released as limited edition vinyl on Record Store Day 2021, but will get a wide release on both CD and vinyl on July 8, 2022.
