Triple bill of films from the celebrated Hungarian director. 'My Way Home' (1964) is a tale of an unusual friendship in the final days of World War II. Joska (Andras Kozak) is a young Hungarian making his way home, through countryside full of the debris of war, when he is captured and imprisoned by Russians.
Left in the custody of a young Russian soldier, Kolya (Sergei Nikonenko), the two youths form a bond despite not being able to speak each other's language. 'The Red and the White' (1967) is a drama set in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. In the brutal civil war that follows, Hungarian volunteers support the 'Red' revolutionaries who are being hunted by the 'White' Government forces ordered to crush them.
The absence of central characters in the film mirrors the confused nature of life in the midst of a civil war, but Anatoli Yabbarov as Captain Chelpanov and József Madaras as a military commander make an impression. 'The Round-Up' (1965) is set in the time after the 1848 rebellion against the oppressive Habsburg Austrian Empire. In order to root out the guerillas, the army rounds up suspects and jails them in an isolated detention camp.
The authorities are seeking the rebel leader, who they believe is among those captured, but the guerillas refuse to give their leader's identity away. János Gajdar (János Görbe) finds himself at the centre of the physical and psychological war that follows, as the captors attempt to extract the information they want from the unwilling prisoners.
