THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN, the comedy series that debuted in 1999 to universal critical acclaim, takes place in the fictional town of Royston Vasey, where the inhabitants are almost entirely played by three actors: Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith. A darkly comic look at rural country life, the show features a cast of misfits, miscreants, weirdos, and transvestites who all seem to revolve around the elderly shop owners Tubbs and Edward, who refuse to give change and have a penchant for murdering customers.
