Some of the stories revolve around their Native American heritage. The cousins are members of the Catawba Indian Nation located in South Carolina. Each book contains Native American Words of Wisdom.
BOOK THREE: THE ONLY RED DEER IN THE FOREST was written for Catawba Cousin Brielly "Red Deer" because she has beautiful red hair. She is a member of the Lumbee Tribe but lives on the Catawba Reservation. It was written to show that she can be proud of being different. The second story, Tiny Tina, is about how being different is a good thing.
