First in 1947 when it was founded and then in 1971 when its eastern wing broke away and became Bangladesh. The book portrays the events and personalities between its two births. The narrative moves at pace deftly navigating the muddy waters of Pakistan's internal and external struggles bringing to life the causes and conclusions of its costly wars with India.
