Mahabharata is one of the oldest and the longest epic ever written. It was composed by Vyasa, an avatar of god Vishnu, in Sanskrit, which is a dead language today. What is in Mahabharata may be found elsewhere, but what is not in Mahabharata will not be found anywhere. Reading and comprehending this 100,000-couplets-long masterpiece is almost impossible for today's generation. This simplified version presents an easy to read and abridged version of the epic. Reading Mahabharata and meditating on its meaning will lead to forgiveness of sins and attainment of heaven (Moksha) after death. May those benefits be bestowed upon the readers of this abridged version also. The crux of the story is a war between Pandavas and Kauravas. All 18 akshauhinis of soldiers on both sides were wiped out in 18 days of war. Pandava brothers were victorious. Krishna who was allied with Pandavas revealed that he was the supreme god Vishnu, the creator and preserver and destroyer of the universe and that all prayers to all gods go to him. He appears on earth in every age to destroy adharma and establish dharma. He said he is time and everything appears in time and everything is destroyed by time. He brought together all the warriors on both sides on the Kurukshetra battle filed so that they can be annihilated. He told Pandava Arjuna that he need not be distraught about killing those warriors because only the physical body can be killed and 'Atma' (soul) will either acquire another body or go on to heaven and join the creator. This message is the intended moral of the story.
