Francis durbridge was arguably the most popular writer of mystery thrillers for BBC radio and television from the 1930s to the 1970s, after which he enjoyed a successful career as a stage dramatist. In the 1940s and 1950s Paul Temple was the number one radio detective, so it is no surprise that he appeared in many short stories in newspapers and magazines.
