Conviction of Sin

Jesus promised us that He would send the Holy Spirit, and then described what He would do: "When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment" (John 16:8). This conviction cannot be replaced by persuasive arguments, eloquent sermons, cleverly laid out gospel tracts, or any other manmade ministry method. Indeed, there is only one thing that can bring a lost sinner to Christ or can reclaim the backslider in heart: the conviction of the Holy Spirit. No one is good enough or sincere enough to come to God on their own; we all need this work in our hearts: "For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me" (John 6:44).
