Her childhood traumas, deaths, and betrayals made basketball her fortitude. Johnson brings forth the issue of reoccurring pride and not being able to overcome her horribly entrenched attitude. However, she was able to reconstruct her life after going on a spiritual journey after losing a lover at the ripe age of 20.

Johnson teaches lessons through her experiences that most can relate too. She understands that her journey is not one of a kind and becomes vulnerable so the readers can acknowledge success does not come without obstacles. Growth does not come without change and change without acceptance.
