Originally published in 1886 and long out of print, John Seeley's account of the "Family Compact" between the Kings of France and Spain takes in geopolitics, diplomatic maneuvering, conspiracy theories, and the reactions of England to the alliance. Seeley was Regius Professor of Modern History, at the University of Cambridge and his works continue to have enduring historical influence.
