Publisher Marketing: Who were the Remingtons? By Donna White-Davis copyright 1999-2014 The Remingtons were an American family that in conjunction with every significant figure and concept of 19th Century shaped their town, New York State, the United State of America and the world yet little is attributed to their contribution. Why? The series of books are to give their history back to those whose lives and destiny they influenced for good and forever. Their values represent the best of entrepreneurial 19th century America setting an example for industry shaping balanced lives and villages throughout social progress, upheaval, freedom and change. Jennie Richardson was the daughter of Philo Remington's attorney and child friend to his daughter who was of the tender years during the Civil War. The author was given a copy of Philo's daughter's diary throughout the Civil War chronicling the effects of the war upon those young people. Coupled with the diary of a teenage mill worker of the same village, at the same time a balanced picture of theirs lives become apparent. Though it seem young to us, the villages of America were sending off boys as young as 14(and sometimes younger) to the battle fronts. During the war the girls realized that their families were changing in ways deep and serious as the death numbers of these young people grew and the letters from the front came home. It is believed that Jennie graduated from Fairfield Academy and was one of many early New York State Woman doctors. Jennie, through the influence of a vibrant and equal female doctor graduates from Fairfield Academy, which her Grandfather and Great-grandfather and contemporaries created, chose to actively train to save the lives of the children put at risk by the political dynamics of the Civil War. That poignant gentle, knowing photograph of a teenage woman, Jennie Richardson, during the American Civil war was the impetus for writing the series. I had to learn who she was, where she studied and how the haunting knowing look far beyond her years came to own her beautiful young countenance. The amazing story unfolded revealing secrets of the village and towns where I grew up-villages and towns that for a century and a half held her secrets.
