Orchids and Dragonflies is the second book by Kate McCarthy. In this novel Kate reveals the deceit, betrayal and romance that can tear a family apart. In December 2005 Ruth buys an old dilapidated farmhouse not far from Oradour-sur-Glane in France, funded by a small inheritance. Except for her supportive son, her philandering husband and rebellious daughter are both uninterested from the outset. She courageously struggles to overcome what she sees as the biggest mistake of her life, the purchase of the house. From a nightmare beginning, when in the depths of winter she is forced to visit the house alone, the dark secrets of the past gradually reveal themselves and begin to influence the consequences of her life.
