Human history begins with writing. Academically, we consider everything prior to the inception of writing to be prehistoric. This means that the modern human experience has only been 'blessed' with this development for a relatively short time: 6,000 years at best. Language, itself, is a predetermined set of communicative words, sounds, expressions, gestures, (etc.) that are all used to relay an intentional meaning from one source to another. Language is very different than 'writing'. Without even the use of 'writing' a spoken language can establish a shared meaning given to the many 'things' found in one's external environment in addition to the myriad of thoughts and 'feelings' experienced internally.
