Miller is Assistant Professor of International Security Affairs at the National Defense University. He served in the US Army early in the Afghan campaign and then from 2003 to 2007 worked at CIA as a political analyst in the Office of South Asia Analysis. From September 2007 to September 2009 he was director for Afghanistan and Pakistan on the staff of the National Security Council. He remains an intelligence officer in the US Army Reserve.
