Grandsy's eyes lit up for just a few moments in the old way and then the sparkle died out.

"I'm too tired to go out for food," she said.

"No big deal," I replied.

But it was a big deal. This had happened in my last two visits: something was really wrong. Grandsy was in some kind of funk. What could it be? I went into the living room and quietly cried on the couch.

Later, Mum told me that Grandsy had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia.

"I will not let Grandsy forget me... I will not let her slip quietly into THIS dark night!"

Ray's Father had told her stories of the "Elixir of Immortality" residing in Shambhala. He was obsessed with finding Shambhala, so it was one of the most likely places to find clues to his disappearance. Playing the trump card of Fa's disappearance, Ray convinces her Mother to travel with her to Nepal.

Little do they know it, but Ray and her Mother have arrived at the most turbulent moment in the political history of Nepal. Ray's Mum is invited on a double date with a member of Nepal's royal family. Flattered and fed up with Ray's double-dealing, her Mum goes on her own adventure. That very night the royal family is massacred and Ray's Mum is taken hostage.
