Earl's Retreat

Earl Bryant, a moonshiner kingpin in the wilds of 1930's Liberty County, Florida, is accused of assassinating veteran Federal Agent Frank Stiller on the front steps of the Bryant homestead. Bryant is arrested, indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced to hang. Meet Ellie, Earl's wife and a feminist of a sort in her day, tough as flint but loyal to a fault to stand by her man through thick and thin. A host of judicial folk fill out the cast of characters including a thorough and loyal defense attorney, an insufferable egotistic U. S. Marshall, a talented Federal Judge and a gifted prosecution team. The story wraps the assassination plot into an enigma inside a riddle as the defense team tries desperately to solve them.
