A Scent From the Rose of Sharon

POWilson's requiem to his mother, "A Scent from the Rose of Sharon," is a moving tribute to her memory. Just 17 poems, penned during Wilson's creation of his 'middle view' poems; their presence being felt in this volume. In it he works to make peace with this tragic loss through his recollection of that young child he once was, bathed in the sunlight of a "warm sun that only comes from a mother's breath" and into the adult realm of contemplating where loved ones might be after death; even prodding in the stanza "rise mother rise" for her return. Wilson's poetry searches for ways to show others what he has found in life's very human struggle to make sense of the world we live in. The grieving process is seen in all its dark stages here and gives a human response to one of life's hardest mysteries to grasp. Wilson takes these emotions fully into the space where he finds not only the deepest place of sorrow but also solace from memories of joy, love and honesty imparted to all of us when those we love are gone from our lives.
