"Only You" and "The Great Pretender" are two slow numbers that have made many generations of dancers go into a clinch, and so they rightly became eternal hits… thanks to which The Platters became the most famous Black American vocal group on the planet. The group was a success from the day it was founded (in Los Angeles in 1953) and, despite the occasional change of soloist brought about by new trends and styles in music, The Platters were synonymous with Pop in the Fifties, and are now legends in their own right.
