Endophytic Fungi:potential Antimicrobial Agent: Antimicrobial Potential of Endophytic Fungi Isolated from Juniperus Recurva and Podophyllum Hexandrum from Jammu India

Endophytes provide an abundant reservoir of bioactive metabolites for medicinal exploitation, and an increasing number of novel compounds are being isolated from endophytic fungi. In India Juniperus recurva (Drooping juniper) is grown in Assam, Himachal-Pradesh, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir. Podophyllum hexandrum (Himaliyan Mayapple) grows in unexplored environments (>3000 m) in high altitude ranges of the Himalayas where there is a possibility of mutualistic interactions between different groups of organisms. Endophytes have been recognized as potential source of novel natural products for pharmaceutical, agricultural and industrial uses, especially secondary metabolites produced by fungal endophytes colonizing medicinal plants. This book presents a broad and comprehensive anlysis of the antimicrobial potential of endophytes isolated from Juniperus recurva and Podophyllum hexandrum from Jammu region of India, against selected pathogens. This work is very useful for University students, course lecturers, researchers and medical practitioners in microbiology, pharmacology, medicinal biochemistry and pharmacognosy.
