Alice Willoughby is an immortal shapechanger. She has lived more than 400 years as many people, including a German soldier, a conquering African empress, and a Chinese artist and counselor to the immortal empress of China.

Her body completely destroyed in a fire while rescuing people from death, years later she awakes inside her mother and helps her mother have a safe and easy birth. She is born at the beginning of the 1900s in the Hill Country in the center of Texas.

She joins a pair of barnstormers who are helping America awaken to the promise of aviation. How high can she go? She is determined to find out
