A Wobbly Start
C B Wright
This book is not about a cosy, secure childhood. It reminds us, with a shock, just how little we knew when we were young. C. B. Wright recounts the vivid impressions and experiences of rural life during World War II. The Victorian teaching and wartime hazards were offset by sheer enjoyment of the countryside. In 1946, the family moved to London, an environment with a different set of challenges. The lack of parental support made it hard to cope, but in retrospect, some incidents were hilarious. The author's own illustrations invite us to share her experiences, and raise the book to a level that is both entertaining and unforgettable.
