Katie Did

As a result of several miscarriages early in their marriage the Millford?s accepted they?d have no children and threw themselves into their professional lives. An unplanned pregnancy evolved into inconvenience rather than joy. Now, they both were into their forties.

The new baby girl, Katie, began life under the care of nannies. Eager to learn, she grasped new academic teachings easily being promoted from one grade to the next and ending up with a scholarship to the University of Maryland. Although being exposed to proper manners and being taught the general difference between right and wrong behavior, somehow social skills hadn?t been included in her education. She lacked the ability to understand or get involved in personal male/female relationships.

After two years of dating Kenny Hagen, her polar opposite, he proposed to her. Flattered and giddy she accepted.

Little by little their union deteriorated. He became verbally abusive, a borderline drunk and made threats of physical harm. Threats continued even after the birth of their daughter, Marley. Katie opted for divorce, took Marley, now school aged, and moved out.

When a body was discovered in the house Kenny had moved to after the divorce, Katie was arrested and jailed. The murder was described as brutal with the face and head of the victim being beaten beyond recognition, possibly by the use of a sledge-hammer. Could Katie have done it?
