"The plan adopted has been to trace out the lines of descent in Tables to about the middle of the nineteenth century, and then in the body of the work to set out the living descendants of the persons last named in the Tables. "Thus, to take an instance which will be familiar to most readers, in the case of the reigning house, the line in the Chart is carried down to Queen Victoria, 1819-1901. Then in the body of the work we find King Edward VII (No. 6040), eldest son (of Queen Victoria, the head of the line), followed by George, Prince of Wales (No. 6041), grandson (of the head of the line), only son of No. 6040 (King Edward VII), and so on." "The work naturally divides itself into two parts, the first comprising the descendants of the Princess Margaret Tudor, Henry VII.th's elder daughter; and the second those of the Princess Mary Tudor, his younger daughter.
